Gallery Hours
The galleries of Arts and Letters are open to the public Thursday through Sunday, 12 to 6pm. Admission is free. No tickets or reservations are needed to visit the exhibitions.
We close annually on New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and December 25. The galleries will also be closed December 26–29, 2024.
Directions
We are located at the far end of Audubon Terrace, on Broadway between West 155th and 156th Streets, in Washington Heights. To reach us, enter through the large gate on Broadway flanked by Boricua College and the Hispanic Society Museum and Library and walk west.
Subway: Take the 1 train to 157th Street or the C train to 155th Street. The nearest wheelchair accessible stop is the A/C at 168th Street.
Bus: Take the M4 to West 155th Street or M5 to West 157th Street.
Bike: A Citibike station is located on Broadway at West 157th Street and bike racks are available on Broadway at West 156th Street.
Parking: There is a limited amount of free street parking on West 155th and 156th Streets and metered parking on Broadway. Nearby parking garages are located on Riverside Drive and West 153rd Street. Visitors holding the NYC Parking Permit for People with Disabilities (PPPD) placard are granted accessible parking privileges on West 155th Street, directly in front of our administrative entrance.
Accessibility
Our buildings are fully accessible by wheelchair through the Broadway entrance to Audubon Terrace.
The terrace walk to Arts and Letters is the length of a full city block, and visitors must traverse three stairways, with seven steps, fifteen steps, and six steps, respectively.
There are wheelchair ramps on the first and third stairways on the terrace; the second stairway has a wheelchair lift, which is operated by Arts and Letters staff. To use the lift, please ring the bell or call (212) 368-5900 to arrange for a staff member to meet you.
With prior arrangement, visitors using wheelchairs may also enter through the garage to the left of our administrative entrance, located at 633 West 155th Street. There is an elevator, sized 36 inches deep and 34 inches wide, that reaches all levels of the building. Concrete ramps connect our buildings to the Arts and Letters terrace. Please note that the slopes of the garage entrance (14%) and hallway to the elevator (18%) are steeper than the ADA-recommended maximum. Wheelchairs

Restrooms
All-gender wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available in our galleries.
Strollers and Service Animals
Baby strollers are welcome in our galleries. Service animals on a leash are permitted in our galleries.
Interpreters and Translation
ASL and other language interpreters can typically be provided for events with two weeks’ advance notice.
