NEW YORK, MARCH 15, 2024 – The American Academy of Arts and Letters announces the five recipients of its 2024 Awards in Architecture, totaling $60,000 in prizes that honor both established and emerging architects. Arts and Letters’s annual architecture awards program began in 1955 with the inauguration of the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize and has since expanded to include four Arts and Letters Awards. This year’s recipients were chosen from a group of individuals and practices nominated by the members of Arts and Letters. The members of this year’s selection committee were Toshiko Mori (chair), Deborah Berke, Marlon Blackwell, Merrill Elam, Steven Holl, Michael Maltzan, Nader Tehrani, and Billie Tsien.
The annual Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize of $20,000 may be given to architects of any nationality who have made a significant contribution to architecture as an art. The 2024 Brunner Prize will be given to the Spanish architecture studio SelgasCano.
Architecture studio LevenBetts and landscape architect Julie Bargmann will receive Arts and Letters Awards of $10,000 each to recognize American architects whose work is characterized by a strong personal direction.
Architectural historian Beatriz Colomina and visual artist Krzysztof Wodiczko will receive Arts and Letters Awards of $10,000 each to recognize those who explore ideas in architecture through any medium of expression.
The architecture awards will be presented alongside the art, literature, and music awards at Arts and Letters’s annual Ceremonial in May.
