Jessi Reaves recalls seeing a work by Tom Burr called An Orange Echo and being struck by its emotional potency. Burr had taken two rows of orange theater seats and placed them inside Judd-like plywood boxes lined with mirrored Plexiglas. Familiar objects of public life, suddenly interior, doubled, unmoored from function. Seeing the work gave Reaves permission to trouble and transform the associations that furniture and design carry.
In this event, Jessi Reaves invites Tom Burr to respond to the sculptures in her exhibition and have a freewheeling conversation with her about the work.
This event is free and open to the public with RSVP. Reservations can be made here. Space is limited.
