El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego
with Vocal Performances in Our Library
This May, the Metropolitan Opera premieres El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, the first opera by Arts and Letters member Gabriela Lena Frank, with libretto by Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the story depicts Frida Kahlo leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego Rivera.
At this event, moderated by Arts and Letters member Derek Bermel, Frank and Cruz will speak about the creation of this new work. Their conversation will be interspersed with solo vocal performances by members of the cast. The evening concludes with a reception at the Hispanic Society Museum & Library next door to Arts and Letters.
This event is presented by the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Hispanic Society Museum & Library, and the Metropolitan Opera. It is free and open to the public with reservations required. Please RSVP here.
