WINNERS OF 2007 ARCHITECTURE AWARDS
Eric Owen Moss Wins the Brunner Prize
Wes Jones, Tom Kundig, and Lebbeus Woods
Selected
to Receive Academy Awards in Architecture
New York, March 5, 2008 -- New York, March 27, 2007 -- The American Academy of Arts and Letters announced today the winners of its four awards in architecture for 2007. Candidates for the awards are nominated by Academy members, and the winners were selected by jury members Henry N. Cobb, Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, Hugh Hardy, Steven Holl, Richard Meier (jury chairman), Cesar Pelli, and James Stewart Polshek. The prizes will be given at the Academy's annual award and induction ceremony in May.
Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture
Eric Owen Moss has won the $5000 Brunner Memorial Prize, which is given "to an architect of any nationality who has made a significant contribution to architecture as an art."
Academy Awards in Architecture
Two Academy Awards of $7500 to American architects whose work is characterized by a strong personal direction will go to Wes Jones and Tom Kundig.
A third Academy Award of $7500, which acknowledges an American who explores ideas in architecture through any medium of expression, will go to Lebbeus Woods.
Exhibition
The work of award winners Eric Owen Moss, Wes Jones, Tom Kundig, and Lebbeus Woods will be featured in the upcoming Exhibition of Work by Newly Elected Members and Recipients of Honors and Awards, from May 18 through June 10, 2007, at the Academy's galleries located on Audubon Terrace, Broadway between 155 and 156 Street. Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m., and admission is free. The galleries will be closed for Memorial Day weekend Saturday and Sunday, May 26 - 27, 2007.
